The ludicrously funky title track from Dave Gold Big Band‘s ‘Heaven on Their Minds’ is available to stream on Spotify.
This previously unreleased arrangement was recorded at the BBC in 1974 for an episode of Peter Clayton‘s much love Jazz Club show. Dave takes Judas’ show-stealing number from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Chris Superstar and perfectly fuses the funky jazz-rock theme, with a sophisticated big band sound. Complete with gleaming electric piano, powerful drumming and wonderful soloing from horn section and guitarist John Girvan.
