Listen back to three radio shows featuring British jazz vinyl only mixes by My Only Desire Records
We’ve gathered together three radio shows featuring vinyl only mixes from My Only Desire‘s Jon Griffiths, which he recorded to celebrate the release of Mike Westbrook‘s Love and Understanding: Citadel/Room 315 Sweden ’74.
First up it was an hour-long 70s Brit jazz mix for Alan McKinnon‘s cult Saturday morning show, Duvet Rustling Jazz, which broadcasts 8am -10am every Saturday on Back2Back FM live from his house in Lewisham. The mix starts at 1:00:30 and features killer cuts from Mike Westbrook, Harry Beckett, Elton Dean’s Ninesense, Dudu Pukwana, John Dankworth and His Orchestra and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.

Next up was another 70s Brit jazz mix, this time for James Endeacott‘s brilliantly eclectic Morning Glory show on Soho Radio, which is on every weekday 09:00 – 12:00. This 45 minute mix moves into more jazz-rock territory and includes tracks from Mike Westbrook, Hugh Hopper / Elton Dean / Keith Tippett / Joe Gallivan, Don Weller‘s Major Surgery, Neil Ardley and Ian Carr’s Nucleus. Third up, was another 45 minute mix for Morning Glory, this time featuring 100% Mike Westbrook tracks from his various projects. Including Solid Gold Cadillac, The Mike Westbrook Concert Band and Mike Westbrook Orchestra from LPs originally released 1969 – 1980, bookended by tracks from Love and Understanding: Citadel/Room 315 Sweden ’74. The mix displays the breadth and stunning creativity of a hugely productive period of his long career. Listen in from 1:15:14.
