Two ‘90s duo meetings between British saxophonist George Haslam and Hungarian-American pianist Laszlo Gardony recorded at the Holywell Music Room, Oxford.

“I remember the concert given by George & Laszlo in 1991 at the Holywell music room in Oxford which was recorded by Michael Gerzon. Now, 3 years after Michael’s death (1996), I have employed those same techniques, in the same acoustic space, with the same musicians, playing the same instruments. Michael’s recording has a classic ambient sound (less instrumental detail and more room ambience) whilst mine is a close “photograph” (more instrumental detail and less room ambience), to cap it all, the software used in the final mastering and editing of this CD, was conceived and developed by Michael – and so, even though Michael is no longer with us. His pioneering work continues to influence what we do today.” – Tim Turan

George Haslam: baritone saxophone, tarogato
Laszlo Gardony: piano

“Haslam continues to impress me with each recording of his I hear, and these live concert performances are no exception. The empathy between Haslam and pianist Gardony remains constant as they burrow into the heart of five original compositions and two famous jazz vehicles…These duet performances have all the ingredients necessary to capture and hold an audience’s attention. Haslam and Gardony have something going between them, and it transmits directly to the listener.” – Frank Rubolino, Cadence
