He has put together a larger than usual group that is most noticeable for the contributions made by Roswell Rudd on trombone…The collaboration between the two is not new – they have recorded previously – but to describe this as being more formalised free jazz, though almost a contradiction in terms, recognises that the writing and arranging has clearly been well thought out while never losing sight of the fact that spontaneous improvisation and the ability to relate to what each artist is doing is very important in this type of music.
