Free jazz recording by four South London-based musicians from various musical genres, focusing on the compositional structure of improvisation. This is the group’s second album on SLAM, following ‘Now Processing’.
Dave Hayley: drums
Alan Eason: guitars
Tris Harris: piano, Rhodes, tenor saxophone
Andy McFarlane: violin
“This set’s name is well chosen, as there is a feeling here of some big and intense music waiting to burst out of an awkwardly compressed space. Violinist Andy McFarlane dominates, his bleary, juddering lines scrawling across a carefully delineated landscape of instant drumming and scrunched-up guitar from Dave Heyley and Alan Easton respectively. Tris Harris trebles up on piano, Fender Rhodes and tenor sax…Unexpectedly, they do play a mean if nicely wayward beat on the aptly named “Funk Bath” and come over all romantic on the lengthy “Bespoke”. Most rewarding.” – Simon Adams, Jazz Review
Recorded June 3rd 2007 at Trinity College of Music.
Recording engineer: Kit Venables.
Mixed by Jon Clayton, One Cat Studios, Brixton, London.
